Survey Templates
Last updated: September 4, 2026
Survey Templates let you save a reusable survey structure — questions, end screen, and email design — so you can create the same type of survey again and again without starting from scratch.
Who this is for: All users who regularly send recurring survey types (e.g., CSAT, NPS, CES).
Overview
If you find yourself sending the same style of survey over and over, Survey Templates save you the hassle of duplicating an old survey and editing it, or rebuilding one from the ground up each time. Create a template once — say, a CSAT template — and use it as the starting point for every CSAT survey you send going forward. Templates live in their own space alongside your surveys, and any survey created from one is fully editable, so a template gives you a head start, not a locked structure.
Prerequisites
No special prerequisites — if you have access to Surveys, you have access to Survey Templates.
How It Works
A template holds the same building blocks as a regular survey: questions, an end screen, and (for email surveys) an email design. When you create a survey from a template, that content is copied into a new survey, which you can edit freely — changes to the survey never affect the original template, and changes to the template later never affect surveys already created from it. Templates are managed separately from your surveys, under their own tab, so you can build, edit, and reuse them without cluttering your survey list.
Getting Started
Creating a Template
You can create a template two ways.
From the Templates list:
Navigate to Surveys > Templates. This is where all your templates live.
Click New Template. This opens the Create New Template window.
Choose a starting point. Select Start from scratch to build a blank template, or Create from survey to bring in questions, logic, and end screen from an existing survey. If you choose Create from survey, a dropdown appears immediately — select the survey you want to copy from.
Enter a Template Name. This is required.
Enter a Description (optional). Use this to note what the template is for.
Click Create Template. You'll land in the template editor, the same interface used for editing regular surveys.
From an existing survey:
Navigate to your Surveys list.
Click the options button on the survey you want to copy.
Click Generate Template.
Enter a Template Name and optional Description.
Click Create Template. You'll land in the template editor with that survey's questions, logic, and end screen already in place.
Note: Email design only carries over when you create a template from an email survey. Non-email surveys don't have an email design to copy.
Creating a Survey from a Template
Start from a template card or the template editor. Click the create-survey action on a template card in the Templates list, or trigger it from within the template editor. This opens the Create New Survey window, pre-filled with Copy from template and your chosen template already selected.
Alternatively, start from the Surveys list. Click your usual create-survey button, then choose Copy from template as the starting point and select a template from the list.
Choose a brand. In the Brand step, select the brand template to apply to the survey.
Choose a delivery channel. In the Delivery Channel step, select how the survey will be sent.
Finish to land in the survey editor. The survey is pre-filled with the template's questions, end screen, and (if applicable) email design — all fully editable before you send.
Configuration Options
Everything you can configure inside a template — questions, logic and branching, required/optional settings, end screen content, and email design (subject line, sender, body, branding) — works exactly the same way it does in a regular survey. A template is simply a saved container for these same building blocks, so there's nothing template-specific to learn here.
At the template level, you can:
Option | Description | Default | Available Values |
|---|---|---|---|
Template Name | Identifies the template in your Templates list | Required at creation | Any text |
Description | Notes on what the template is for | None | Any text (optional) |
Best Practices
Build a template for each recurring survey type (like CSAT or NPS) to skip rebuilding the same structure every time you send one.
Use Create from survey or Generate Template to turn a survey you've already fine-tuned into a reusable template, instead of building a new one from scratch.
Add a description to each template so you and your team can tell templates apart at a glance, especially once you have several.
Treat template content as a starting point — review and adjust questions, end screen, and email design for each new survey as needed before sending.
Limitations
Templates can't be organized into folders or categories — they appear as a flat list under the Templates tab.
FAQ
Q: Will deleting a template affect surveys that were created from it? A: No. Surveys created from a template are independent once created — deleting the template doesn't change or remove them.
Q: Does editing a template update surveys already sent? A: No. Editing a template only affects future surveys created from it. Surveys already created or sent are not retroactively updated.
Q: Can I convert an existing survey into a template after I've already built it? A: Yes. Use Generate Template from the options menu on the Surveys list, or select Create from survey when creating a new template.
Q: Does the email design always carry over when creating a template from a survey? A: No. Email design only carries over if the source survey is an email survey. Other survey types don't have an email design to copy.
