Mixpanel User Custom Fields

Last updated: April 24, 2026

The Mixpanel custom fields (cohort) importer pulls user properties and cohort memberships from your Mixpanel project into Unwrap as custom fields on your existing feedback entries, letting you slice and filter feedback by the same attributes you already track in Mixpanel.

What Unwrap needs

  1. A Mixpanel service account's credentials

    1. Go to Project Settings > Service Accounts

    2. Create a service account

      1. Choose a username

      2. Save the service account secret. This value is only displayed once when the service account is created, so securely save it somewhere. It is required to set up this integration.

  2. Your Mixpanel Project ID

    1. Find this in Project Settings > Overview

  3. Your Mixpanel region

    1. This defaults to United States (us) but if your Mixpanel account is located in Europe (eu) or India (in) you will need to specify this.

  4. (Optional) Cohorts to exclude

    1. If there are Cohorts whose user data you wish to exclude from these imports, you can specify a comma-separated list of them by ID.

    2. You can find these Cohort IDs in Data > Lexicon > Cohorts > Click the cohort name > Cohort ID is displayed at the top of the popup modal

    3. Note: If a user exists in both an excluded and non-excluded cohort, that user's data will still be brought in and attached to matching feedback entries. The name of the excluded cohort will not be attached to the entry.

  5. Distinct ID Join Key

    1. The Mixpanel importer joins cohort and property data onto your feedback entries by matching a user's Mixpanel Distinct ID. For this to work, you need to already be bringing in a custom field from another Unwrap integration (Zendesk, Snowflake, etc.) that carries the Mixpanel Distinct ID for each user.

Setting up the integration

An Unwrap representative can help walk you through the setup process. You'll be asked to enter the information from above, and once authenticated you will configure the Mixpanel fields you want to bring in to Unwrap. It's also at this point that you will match the Distinct ID field in Mixpanel with one of the existing custom fields in Unwrap to use as the join key.
