Sprout Social
Last updated: July 17, 2026
Unwrap integrates with Sprout Social to pull in social content from your brand's profiles and social listening topics. This integration allows you to analyze customer comments, direct messages, reviews, and public mentions across your social networks, surfacing sentiment, trends, and areas for improvement across your social presence.
Unwrap offers two Sprout Social integrations, each backed by a different Sprout API:
Sprout Social Messages pulls owned inbox content across your connected profiles: comments and direct messages on your brand's own social accounts (Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, and more). Backed by Sprout's Messages API.
Sprout Social Listening pulls social listening content: public mentions matching your Sprout Listening Topics, including content not owned by your brand. Includes Sprout's sentiment classification per message. Backed by Sprout's Listening API. Requires the Sprout Listening tier.
You can connect either or both. Both use the same Sprout Social API token.
Steps to Integrate
Step 1: Enable API access and generate your Sprout Social API token
Sprout Social uses a single bearer API token for authentication. Before you can generate one, your account must meet a few requirements, and the token must be created by a user with the right permissions.
Pre-requisites
Plan: Your Sprout account must be on a plan that includes API access. For the Listening integration specifically, your account must be on the Listening tier. If you're unsure, contact your Sprout sales representative or support.
Permissions: The user generating the token must have the API Permissions permission in Sprout. Tokens created without it will fail validation in Unwrap. For more information about Sprout's API access and permissions, see Sprout's API documentation: https://api.sproutsocial.com/docs
Terms of Service: If you haven't already, accept Sprout's Analytics API Terms of Service:
Log in to Sprout.
Navigate to Settings → Global Features → API: https://app.sproutsocial.com/settings/analytics-api/
Accept Sprout's Analytics API Terms of Service.
Generate the token
Any user with the API Permissions permission can create, view, and invalidate tokens.
Log in to Sprout.
Navigate to Settings → Global Features → API: https://app.sproutsocial.com/settings/analytics-api/
In the API Token Management section, click Generate API Token.
Enter a name for your token (e.g. "Unwrap Integration").
Copy the token and store it securely. You'll paste it into Unwrap in the next step.
Note: There are no OAuth scopes to configure. Access is governed by your plan/tier and by the API Permissions of the account that generates the token. A token generated on a Listening-enabled plan will have access to both Messages and Listening data.
Step 2: Connect and enter your API token
Go to the Unwrap Integrations page, find the Sprout Social integration you want ("Sprout Social Messages" or "Sprout Social Listening"), and click Connect. You'll be prompted to enter your API Token: paste the Sprout Social token you generated in Step 1.
Step 3: Review what's collected and configure filters
3.1 Enable metadata
A few examples of metadata available:
Messages: comment and DM text, network and post type, author info, permalinks, tags, and timestamps.
Listening: mention text, Sprout's sentiment classification (positive / negative / neutral), the topic the mention matched, network, author, and source.
Each record is imported with its original timestamp, author, source network, and a link back to the content in Sprout.
3.2 Configure filters (optional)
Filters let you narrow the scope from "everything" to a subset. They're optional; leave them blank to ingest everything. A few examples of what you can filter on:
Sprout Social Messages, for example:
Profile (specific social accounts, by name or ID)
Group (a specific profile group)
Tags (only messages carrying specific Sprout tags)
Post type and language
Sprout Social Listening, for example:
Topic (specific listening topics, by name or ID)
Sentiment (e.g. only positive or negative mentions)
Network (e.g. only Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn)
When you apply more than one filter, they are combined (intersected): a record must match all of them to be imported. Date-range scoping is handled automatically by the import window.
Step 4: Name and save
Enter an Integration Name: a descriptive name for this integration (e.g. "Sprout Owned Social, Comments & DMs" or "Sprout Listening, Brand Mentions").
Review the overview of your new integration.
Click Save to begin importing.
